Chronicles of an Insurance Advisor
Case #3:
Recently, we were able to help a female client who was recently laid off and lost her health insurance coverage. Although she could continue the plan through COBRA for 18 months, the cost was unaffordable due to her drastically reduced income.
After meeting with her, we determined that she qualified for a tax credit of $358.00 per month. The actual cost of the plan was $440 a month, but because of the credit, her cost was only $82 per month and her deductible was only $250.
Shortly after her coverage became effective, we received a call from her. She thanked us for our help and informed us that she had been diagnosed with cancer. Had it not been for the Affordable Care Act and tax credits, she would have had to pay $440 a month which she could not afford. Her health insurance has given her the peace of mind that she will receive the proper medical care as she continues fighting cancer.
